In my previous post, we ask the residents of Barangay Santo Cristo Malolos, Bulacan of what is their main issue in the community. Most of them have answered that waste management is the problem with barangay officials, as their primary source of lack of programs and implementation is the reason it is still unresolved.
I have come face-to-face with two officials whom I interviewed last Friday, April 01, 2022. Barangay Captain Denver T. Del Rosario and barangay councilor Marilyn P. Castro. Here we can discuss their point of view on whether it is compatible with the problems of their people.
Barangay Captain Denver has been living in Barangay Santo Cristo ever since he was born. He said that there was no problem in his younger days; the problem came when the barangay was overpopulated. Many people built their houses, the waterway narrowed because of the houses built, even the barangay hall and this bridge are topped. Often the houses are not owned by the current owners, including the barangay hall, and it is difficult to halt it.
Garbage is the main issue in the barangay due to overpopulation. He assures it is manageable and catered. “That is not the cause of those existing health problems. It does not matter that is the reason. We have come up with a simple solution so that it does not affect the health of everyone living in our barangay too much,” he said.
Segregation is the best solution to this issue with the people living in the barangay. According to him, there are rules on the proper process of disposing of house waste. He said that there are two ways to reduce the total of trash.
Wastes that can still be recycled and can be earned. When it comes to household information, there is enough funding, but the problem is the implementation. They have a law that requires households to pay an inconsiderable sum of money for fixing waste management.
Barangay Councilor Marilyn P. Castro has a different view. She is ten years older than the barangay captain. She stated that garbage is already been a problem here in the barangay for a long time. The order of eco-aid is strict so the waste problem is solved immediately even if it is big.
An example of this program is in Rufina Golden Village, one of the subdivisions of the Barangay. The photo shows a variety of containers placed outside the house. The order in the subdivision is strict because when garbage is not set correctly, the dump truck will not pick it up every Thursday. As a result, it is easier for garbage collectors to haul the garbage. After collecting it, it will be integrated into the old Material Improvement Facility or MRF of the barangay, so that it will go straight to the MRF of Matimbo.
