Hola!
Are you a San Jose del Monte Heights Brgy. Muzon City of San Jose del Monte Bulacan resident or at least familiar to this place?
I have been living in this small community for about eight years already. For the past years, this community has been my home. It is primarily a housing area for relocatees from various places, and as far as I am aware, this community is almost 11 years old yet. When I first stepped into this subdivision, there were only a few people; the population is still small, and it is, how will I describe this one, bare-looking?
When I first arrived to this place, it was not yet fully developed. There was still no electricity, no water provider, and no windows on houses. I can say that I have watched, and am still watching, the development of this small community. From the construction of the elementary and high school buildings until the recent construction of the infrastructure that was said to be a hospital.
On the other hand, I realized that San Jose Del Monte Heights had its own set of community issues, too, particularly given that it is a relatively new community and even though it is just a small area.
Let us see what these issues are— Issues in the community that may or may not have been foreseen.
Let us get involved in San Jose del Monte Heights.
For the last two days by utilizing the random sampling method , I surveyed some San Jose del Monte Heights residents to ask them questions about the issues they wanted to address within their community. The representation and analysis of their responses, as well as their demographic profiles, are provided below.
Table 1: The Demographic profile of the respondents.
Table 1 shows the representation of the profile of the respondents, which mostly are female, business owners inside the community and age range from 37-65 years old. I added another column to know the number of years they have been living in the San Jose del Monte Heights community. With this data, I found out that 25% of the respondents have already been living in the community for 8 years, 62.5% for 9 years, and 12.5% for 10 years. I mentioned earlier that the community is just almost 11 years old, since its foundation on November 12, 2012. Thus, the respondents are said to be one of the oldest residents of the said community.
Table 2. Community issues the respondents want to address.
Table 3. Tally of the responses
Table 2 and 3 shows the community issues that the respondents want to be addressed by the local officials and by utilizing tabular and content analysis method, it shows that the issue about the water shortage gets the highest number of mentions among the respondents while the strict implementation and surveillance during curfew hours comes next with two responses and the remaining others only got 1.
Respondent 3 said that the water supply in their area only lasted for 2 hours every day, mostly from 8 am to 10 am. She said, "Walang tubig diba. Meron [man] madumi, minsan may ano na lumot. Tuwing umaga lang. Alas diyes wala na... Walang tubig sa gabi. "
In addition, Respondent 7 highlighted the reason why this situation became worse, she said, "simula ng malipat sa Prime water [t]saka [na] nag-umpisa ang problema sa tubig. Bakit kailangang patayin ang tangke natin ng tubig[?] Sa pagkakaalam ko [kasi] kaya itinayo 'yan ay para sa maayos na supply ng tubig pero ngayon wala na ding silbi."

This is one of the daily struggles of the residents of San Jose del Monte Heights. In fact, this matter has already been brought to the attention of local officials several times since last year. It was even covered and reported by News5 in 2021, but the case still remains unsolved.
" Tubig. Importante iyong tubig. Yung mga ingay, natural nalang iyan. Basta tubig lang ang importante. "- Respondent 3
“Iyong iba kasi anak nasa tao na [...] kailangan na rin kasi sa mamamayan 'yong disiplina para makasunod sa mga batas at patakaran ng barangay [...] Kahit anong gawin ng mga kinauukulan, kung ang mga mamamayan o mga tao ay ayaw talagang sumunod at walang disiplina sa sarili, kahit kailan hindi maipapatupad ng maayos ang mga batas” -Respondent 7
According to most respondents, not having a consistent and continuous supply of water for everyday use has become one of the community issues they wanted to address the most. For them, other problems such as waste and noise are probably natural dilemmas that can be controlled through residents' good discipline.
Issues can be labeled as an inevitable situation that a community may face. However, this blog entry prompts Barangay Muzon, City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan local officials, and SJDM PrimeWater to take action to address the issues raised above by San Jose del Monte Heights residents. We are not strangers to these issues. Even though you are not a resident of this community or whether you only work there or know someone who does, taking a stand on this issue matters.
This is a call to action.
Will it make a difference if these issues are brought up during campaign and election season?
