I choose Issue: Addressing the issues/problems of the citizens in Santa.Maria Bulacan

Bulacan is also known as chicharon capital of the Philippines specially in the town of Santa.Maria. Every February, Santa.Maria celebrates a festival dedicated to chicharon – a crunchy snack that every Bulakenyos love to eat with the partner of beer or even rice. But, beyond that delicious product we have, there are many issues/problems that we need to address to our municipality. I chose this place because this is my home town and also, I want to know the issues/problems that my fellow citizens commonly experiencing around in our community. With this, we can raise our concerns in every barangay so that they can improve it in the future. I conduct a survey to some citizens around Santa.Maria Bualacan to know what issues/problems they want to address, below are the results of the survey.

The above table are the basic profile of respondents. 7 out of 8 respondents are female while 1 is male. Majority of them are still studying and taking BS Education as their course. All of them lived in Santa.Maria Bualcan but in different barangays. All of them are around in 20s in age.

Table number 2 shows each of the respondents’ issues/problem they want to address in the community. Respondent number 1 have 3 issues/problems that want to address which is the Drainage System, Waste Management and Street Children. Respondent number 2 have 2 issues/problems that want to address which is Vote Buying and Vote Selling during election period. Respondent number 3 have 2 issues/problems that want to address which is Poor quality and lack of street lights. Respondent number 4 has 1 issue/problem that want to address which is mental health. Respondent number 5 have 3 issues/problems that want to address which is Expensive Goods, Medical Attainment and Job Opportunities. Respondent number 6 have 3 issues/problems that want to address which is Pollution, Waste Management, and Poverty. Lastly, Respondent number 7 and 8 has 1 issue/problem that want to address which is waste management.

Table number 3 represents the total tally of responses base on the number of issues/problems that occurred given by the respondents. The highest number of occurrences is 4 which is fall under waste management and the rest are one. Respondent number 1 said that because of not having a proper waste management, they experience flood and blockage of drainage. Also, respondent number 6, 7 and 8 said that the cause of waste management is lack of discipline in the community and lack of knowledge of the possible effect of it. In a nutshell, most of the respondents’ issue/problem that want to address is waste management. For them, lack of discipline, and knowledge about waste management are the main reason why it is the common problem in the community. Because of it, there have many possible effects that may occur like floods, blockage of drainage, waste pollution and many more. So, we as a responsible citizen, we need to be more discipline and be more knowledgeable about the cause and effect of our actions. If one will make a change, the rest will continue.
