Hello! Its me again but sadly this is the last part of this blog series.
Going back to my first blog, I interviewed some citizens of Santa.Maria Bulacan asking them what are the issues/problems that they think is presented in their barangay. Four out of eight respondents saying that the issue/problem they experiencing in their barangay is mismanagement of solid ate segregation and all of them are from barangay Pulong Buhangin.
In my Blog 2, I interviewed some local officials in the community of Santa.Maria Bulacan to know if they experience the same issue/problem that local citizen has. They are Daren as SK chairman in barangay Pulong Buhangin while Froilan as one of the councilors and surprisingly both of them answered mismanagement of solid waste segragation.
In this final blog, the objective of this is to know if there are any progress in managing solid waste segregation and also to know if the barangay officials are still reminding their citizen to do proper solid waste segregation.
Photo from fb page of Barangay Pulong Buhangin
The picture above is from the Facebook page of barangay Pulong Buhangin which a reminder to their citizen to do proper waste segregation. The reminder said “NO SEGRAGATION, NO COLLECTION” ang iyo po’ng basura ay kinakailangang segregated ayon sa NABUBULOK, DI-NABUBULOK at NARERESIKULO. It shows if they don’t segregate their waste, garbage collectors will not collect the garbage they have. They posted it last March 24, 2022. But, upon reading the comments, it seems that even people are segregating their waste, the problem is the date of collecting garbage.
The photo above is some of the comments came from the post from Facebook page of Barangay Pulong Buhangin. The problem is the collection of garbage which can cause mismanagement of waste segregation because even they segregate there are chances that the garbage will mixed-up because of “natatambak na basura”. It seems that this scenario is been repeating again and again and the citizens are asking to take action on this matter.
The above photo is the recent survey that I conducted. It shows the percentage of the people who answered YES and NO with the question – Do you segregate your solid waste?
The photo is the responses of the question - if no, what are the reason why you did not segregate your waste? Seven out of ten responses said that they don’t segregate their waste because their trash can or trash bins are only one and the garbage collector accepts even the waste are not segregated.
While the photo above are the responses from the question – If yes, how do you segregate your solid waste? Three out of ten answered YES, they segregate their garbage by separating biodegradable from non-biodegradable and recycling the one who can be use and by using different trash cans.
Lastly, the photos above are the actual photos of their garages. The right pictures are the one who do the segregation while the left one is the one who didn’t practice the proper waste segregation.
Therefore, I conclude, even if the local officials reminding their citizens to proper segregate their garbage, it’s upon the people if they still segregate or not because they are the one who’s accountable for this. Also, the garbage collector didn’t obey the local official’s instructions in which do not collect if the waste is not segregated. We see that local officials are reminding their citizen through social media but it’s still the citizens who didn’t obey and do the mismanagement of solid waste segregation.
