Lights, camera, ACTION!: The Stand of Barangay Officials of Barangay Bambang

Everyone has the right to express themselves and also know the truth. The establishment and presence of five pillars of social institutions must keep their authority and function for the people. The government is also part of the institution. Without government, the people will possibly perish. The role of the government is to secure the people through laws and projects that will be accessible to the public.

There’s no perfect government. Because of individuality, mechanisms, systems, and application of the government in every state, province, municipality, and small-town are also different from each other. The ideas also matter how those projects and ordinances are profitable and meaningful to the people.

We always end up questioning ourselves, does the government are transparent to the people? What does the government do with that particular problem or issue? Our consciousness dive into the existence of problems and issues of the people of the community.

As a journalist, we should protect the people first. The business of the journalists is to enlighten their minds about the current situation of the people on the ground. Same with the current officials of the government to hear and learn the demands of the people. We should keep factual information from both sides and serve the transparency from the government to the people and people to the government to resolve the issue or problems that will be beneficial for all.

The Purpose and Method of the Conducted Survey

Barangay Bambang is one of the largest barangays in the Municipality of Bulakan. Composed of six puroks, Barangay Bambang is most populated barangay in the Municipality of Bulakan. According to the 2020 survey, 13,604 inhabitants of Barangay Bambang with an average of 13.7% of the whole population of the Municipality of Bulakan.

Citizen journalism is about news and information featuring a certain community. Therefore, it should be used and practiced first within his or her local area. A journalist needs to have an ear and nose about events in his or her vicinity of responsibility. Every area is our responsibility. Our responsibility is to serve people with the right, accurate and accessible information as part of their fundamental rights.

That’s why I choose the barangay where I reside, Barangay Bambang. The purpose of this survey is to identify and address the problems and issues of my barangay, learn more about the achievements of the projects and activities, and the response of the officials to the issues and problems of Barangay Bambang.

With a great privilege, I have been given a chance to survey with Barangay Officials of Barangay Bambang. Before that, I asked permission from the Barangay Secretary for the availability of the two respondents.

Same questions are asked to the respondents, like from the last survey in Blog Number 1. The mode of the interview is a face-to-face interview. Before I start my interview, I asked for permission to record our conversation with the interviewees and explain the confidentiality of the information given in compliance with the Data Security Act of 2012 (R.A. 10173). We also comply with the protocol of the government (ex. wearing a mask while interviewing with barangay officials)

Interpretation of Data

Based on the provided table, the main problem of Barangay Bambang is the proper segregation of waste in households. Both respondents choose Waste Disposal and Management as one of the main problems of Barangay Bambang.

According to the first respondent, Barangay Captain Jesus “Jessie” Cruz, the main problem of Barangay Bambang is the proper waste disposal or waste management. To have an immediate response to the problem of Barangay about Waste Management. Together with the current efforts of MENRO and Mayor Vergel Meneses provide a garbage truck for Barangay Bambang to have a collection of waste in households to ensure the cleanliness of Barangay Bambang and discipline of the people of Barangay Bambang and the Municipality of Bulakan about proper waste disposal.

According to the second respondent, Barangay Councilor Marcelino L. Morelos, the main problem that barangay are currently facing is proper waste disposal or waste management. He stated that even though they have posters about the possible sanctions for the violation and the memorandum about proper waste disposal, people are continuing their illegal acts violating the proper disposal of waste and sanitation.

Conclusion

By analysis and realization from this blog, the government and the people have shortcomings in the allocation of sustainable projects and discipline. The allocation of the government for a sustainable project is important for the betterment of lives and the welfare of the people. It is also important to have discipline as a citizen to help the society to be healthy. Though there are similarities between the statement of people and the statement of the public officials about waste management. The only way to cut this problem is to terminate the spread of lies, disinformation, and lack of discipline between the people and officials. Knowing the demands of people and the action of the authorities will preserve truth and equity for all.
