Table 1. Participant's Personal Information And the Issue/s They Wanted to Address

Interpretation

This part will interpret the data gathered in an organized manner. This will serve as a guide to further understand the result/s of the survey.

Figure 1. Age Ranges of Participants

This figure shows the age ranges of nine (9) participants whereas 2 out of 9 belongs to the age group between 13-19 years old called as teenagers (Participants 1 and 9); 4 out of 9 are considered as young adults around ages 20-29 years old (participants 2, 3, 5 and 6); and 3 out of 9 adults between ages 30 years old and above (participants 4, 7 and 8).

Classifying ages of the participants is important as issues and concerns may vary depending on whether what age group do they belong. If we observe the table above ( referring to table 1), we can see that the issues posted by teenager participants still coordinated on the main concerns of their barangays. This serves as a disclaimer that despite of being young among age groups, teenagers can still see wider perspective of issues that should be considered within their barangays. Young adults focused on governance as we know that one nature of becoming adult is to criticize and challenge the government. Lastly, old adults focused on first-hand experiences about certain issues that challenges their family and environment. They became more specific on addressing issues that should be met by solutions as soon as possible.

Figure 2. Gender, Educational Attainment and Profession of Participants

Participants consist of seven (7) females and two (2) males. Two (2) of them are high school graduates while seven (7) are college undergraduates. 6 out of 7 college undergraduates are students while the three (3) others are working adults.

Figure 3. Percentage of Community Issues Listed by the Participants

The participants have listed twenty-one (21) issues that they wanted to be addressed in their barangays. In this pie chart, these issues were sectioned into seven (7) which consist of issues regarding (1)Governance and Corruption, (2)Pollution and Flood, (3)Garbage Collection, (4)Road Maintenance, (5)Animal Welfare, (6)Water Supply and (7)Health Services.

Governance and corruption (33.3%) is the most wanted issue to be addressed in any barangay. It tackles issues about incompetent officials, corruption along with public officials and the family privilege among political families. On the other hand, animal welfare and water supply (both 4.8 %) have the least votes on issues in which it is least prevalent in other barangays. Pollution and flood, and road maintenance ( both 19%) also scored higher as issues that should also be considered to address not only by barangay sectors but also city committees. Health services (14.3%) came after as accessible public hospitals and health care facilities should also be a priority for today's health insecurity.

Conclusion Throughout the survey, participants listed various issues that they wanted to be addressed in their community whereas concerns showed difference depending on how their local officials function in certain barangays.

One of the evidences that local officer's services are crucial is the result that Governance and corruption scores highest with 33.3%. Looking closely to figure 1, I noticed that Participant 6 listed various issues regarding government-related issues in their barangay. The number of listed issue about corruption and elite privileges showed that barangay Bagbaguin's local officers needs to improve their service, avoid personal agendas, and serve fully for their constituents.

Bulacan, as well as Meycauayan City became known for their unreasonable road construction that causes traffic congestion. As per my experience as a citizen and as stated by other participants, this road projects including road elevation causes floods for low-lying houses and stalls that cannot afford to elevate their place. This projects also cause muds and sediments that became one of the root causes of floods and water pollution. Speaking of road-related issues, traffic enforcers in Meycauayan City are also known for their excessive charges on traffic violation/ penalty fines. this showed another side of corruption on streets and highways of the city.

Lastly, I also noticed that citizens also neglected their rights to access basic services that should be accessible for them as the local officers neglect to supply. Water, pollution- free surrounding, daily garbage collection as well as animal welfare should also be prioritized as service starts from little things.

During this survey, I realized that the city where I grow needs a lot of improvement that should start from the authorities. Meycauayan City became the town of political dynasties and the playground of prominent political personalities. They continuously fight for the fame and power yet they don't have the heart to serve and make transformation. It all starts with good leadership that makes people move morally and dream for the betterment of their lives-- from the small unit, the family up to the community itself.
