Topic: Road Potholes and Cracks
Meycauayan City is one of the municipalities in Bulacan with road construction projects since it is surrounded by industries that uses heavy-loaded trucks that affect the road’s durability. Despite the local government's efforts to improve main roads, barangays along the routes of these trucks continuously raise concerns about potholes and cracks in their roadways. These hazardous roads were a major worry for barangays such as Perez, Bahay Pari, Pantoc, and Camalig, which were surrounded by factories and industrial sites.
Rationale:
Despite ongoing road construction projects, this remains a significant problem. Gathering information may suggest new findings about the cause of this problem aside from heavy-loaded trucks.
Certain risks, such as vehicle loss of control, may be avoided if highways were safer to travel on.
It can also be a health hazard, as potholes can hold water from rain that may be a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitos.
It would be a great help to the local government in terms of how they respond to this issue by effectively addressing the root cause of the problem and providing long-term solutions.
As per a personal experience, some public vehicles such as tricycle and pedicabs refuses to load passengers who reside on problematic roads as it is tire-damaging.
Moreover, further gathering of information would be beneficial to substantiate this topic. To properly address this concern, interviewees should have first-hand experience regarding this issue. The focus on gathering data will revolve on three specific barangays, Perez, Bahay Pari including Camalig in which respondents have mentioned this issue in the previous blog (entry 1). This interview would have three (3) respondents from each barangay (three from Perez, three from Bahay Pari and three from Camalig), with the total of nine respondents who will be classified based on their age range. Questions should cater to their concerns about the roadways, their presumed root-cause, and their suggested resolutions.
To validate complaints, the interview should involve at least one authorized representative from a factory in any of these barangays and three local officials (one from each barangay) to address their efforts and respond to road-related concerns. Questions for local officers would also address citizens' concerns and their intended resolutions, which can lead for them to think for long-term benefits for both parties. They should also be asked on how they will take part in resolving and eradicating this issue in future initiatives.
