TRASH & TALK: The Progress of Solid Waste Management Plan in Barangay Mabolo, Malolos, Bulacan

Garbage collection has always been a problem for the citizen of Barangay Mabolo.

Where most of them are just finding ways to dispose of their garbage such as trying to “siga” on what they call it. And some people also trying to help the barangay and segregate their garbage.

For example is Mrs.Cynthia Villanueva Bustillos a sari-sari store owner, chose to segregate her garbage from perishable and non -perishable. “Ako binubukod ko, kasi nga eh para kapag yung nabubulok, duon lahat siya, at sa hindi nabubulok mag kakasama din”

As for the meat vendor and sari-sari store owner Mrs.Irene Pascual, she said that there is some point that the garbage always got behind their side, where it starts to have worms and it affects her business with the smell and the late of picking up the trash in late schedule

Some part of the community also chose to set a bonfire to not associate with the collecting of garbage in the barangay as they have their own space to dispose of their trash.

The barangay conducted a meeting about the garbage issue last June 3. One of the workers from the barangay who also collect the garbages and the fees of the community express her opinion about the issue.

Westar Ejanel Capinig said “Minsan may nagagalit, may nag rereklamo” she added that the complaints of the people of not getting their trash immediately mainly because they’re paying fees but it seems like there's no proper way of collecting their waste.

Melancio Fajardo Tamayo, the barangay captain of Mabolo set a meeting with his officials and garbage collectors about this new way of collecting the trash. He have the updated plan for the issue “Simula sa Hunyo 6 ay pangangasiwa ng basura ay pangungunahan na ng baranggay ” he said. This news announce also in the Mabolo Barangay chapel. Mabolo now has its garbage truck to collect all over the barangay, this truck was donated by one of the philanthropists of Mabolo. This can save up to over 20,000 funds for barangay.

However, there are also concerns about how is the new collecting of garbage going to be like.

Some people around the mabolo are complaining about what the barangay said that the garbage cannot be left outside not unless the collector called the citizens.

"One of the things is that what's going to happen if no one was around the house, so none of our garbage will be taken out to the garbage truck? " said one of the concerned citizens.

Even so, there is progress happening on the issue of the Solid waste management of Barangay Mabolo.
