Blog Entry #2
Common issue/s that the Barangay Officials observed
There's no wonder Barangay officials have encountered problems in their barangay, and I think that's the hard part since they're doing everything they can to fix the issue, but some other citizens do not cooperate. My first blog indicated the side of the citizens living in Brgy. Santor, but now, let's look at the respondents I've interviewed and check the similar problems they're facing with the citizens.
As seen in the table above, respondent 1 addressed an issue called 'Usapang Baliwag.' According to our barangay captain in Santor, Usapang Baliwag gives him headaches after three years of sitting in his position. It is still a concern in our barangay. However, they still do not give up; they look for the factory throwing their water waste, and they even raised the matter to the DENR region.
So, what is Usapang Baliwag?
Usapang Baliwag is the water and waste passageway and the drainage of Mcarthur Highway.
The drainage is smelly because there is a factory (which is mentioned above) that throws their waste on the water passageway. This relates to the answer of the citizens I interviewed in my first blog because they can also smell the foul odor coming from the drainage.
Another answer respondent 1 gave me was the obstinate teenagers who do drugs which is similar to the answer of the second respondent where they find teenagers using rugby. Respondent 2 even included an issue of chickens reported missing and stolen.
Based on the answers that I have gathered, there are different sides and different opinions to the mentioned problems. The difference between citizens and barangay officials is that barangay officials are coming up with a solution while citizens call out the issues to be addressed.
Both sides of the coin need to be heard, and once I listened to the answers from my chosen two respondents, I realized that being a barangay official is not easy.
