In order to identify the prevailing community issues among the citizens of the community, a survey was conducted through messenger conversation among the chosen interviewees who are members of the youth, particularly with the age ranging from 18 to 20 years old. They are a mix of male and female Senior High School graduate to College Undergraduate who live in various streets of Barangay Balangkas, Valenzuela City.
The respondents of the survey were chosen for the easier access of data. The citizens were the youth, considering that I, myself, is part of the youth and it will become easier for me to understand the issue that will be raised by the community that I am part of.
The findings of the survey conducted online within the community of Balangkas, Valenzuela shows that 5 out of 8 participants that reside in the area wanted social welfare issues to be addressed by the local officials. These Social Welfare issues stated include the uprising unemployment rate, no proper family education, lack of essential projects that would benefit the citizens, incomplete medical facilities as well as slow responses with regards to health emergencies.
The result of the community survey is probably due to the fact that the local officials in the community are mainly focused on projects that are non-essential in the society. This includes the programs that do not contribute to the development of the community, especially in this time of the pandemic. This agrees with the statement of the first respondent about the issue that the officials lack social welfare programs. Instead, they are making projects such as contests and wall murals that are not really beneficial for our needs. They overlook social welfare necessities that are of utmost need in our society.
On top of that, taking into the account that our world is in a healthcare crisis, the local officials of the community must take priority over the well-being of their citizens. As the saying goes, Health is our Wealth, but how come these issues on Social Welfare particularly the health of the citizens in the community are still overlooked by the local officials? Besides, did the local officials take our needs and perception into consideration or did they ever think about and observe the struggle in the society we are facing right now? If not, the fate of these issues is in our hands.
