ALL-TIME LOW: A Report Addressing the Rising Unemployment Problem in Barangay Mulawin

Topic:

The Increasing Number of Unemployed Citizens in Barangay Mulawin

Summary

With the country imposing one of the longest lockdowns since the pandemic broke out, it led to one of the country’s most staggering economic recessions in decades. Hundreds of small and medium businesses were shut down, thousands were cut from their work, and two years into the pandemic, the numbers are barely going down. Despite the re-opening of establishments and with the lockdown being lifted, the unemployment rate continues to spike. According to the February-10 report of the Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA), the country’s unemployment rate rose to 6.6%, with almost 3.27 Filipinos jobless.

Rationale

  • Though it had been months since the lockdown was lifted, the suffering continues for hundreds of families struggling to provide for their daily lives.

  • The proposed citizen journalism report aims to provide real-life numbers that will bring light to the matter at hand, which is the plunging unemployment rate among the citizens of the barangay.

  • Obtain the probable causes and reasons behind those numbers, based on the stories of the people and the side of the local government.

  • The report can serve as a bridge that will channel the concerns of the people to the solutions that the local government can provide.

Explanation:

The numbers will be the determining variable in this citizen journalism report that I will be pursuing. For me to be able to provide the data needed, the first step that I'll be taking is to contact the Barangay Technical Employment Committee, which has direct contact with our City's Public Employment Service Office. With the current situation in mind, I'm planning to conduct this interview online, through a Messenger call or an email. The stories of the people will then provide the foundation for those numbers gathered. Then, the next step will be the interviews with the barangay officials, hopefully with its head, Hon. Paul Hayo. The interview will revolve around the subject at hand and the solutions they have in mind to help lessen the number of unemployed individuals in the barangay.
