TOPIC: Peace and order in Barangay Hulo, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF TOPIC
In the Philippines, peace and order have been and continued to be one of the major problems of the country. Thus, in order to strengthen peace and order keeping in a community, a barangay peace and order committee is created. The focus of this proposal for a citizen journalism report is the peace and order issues of Barangay Hulo, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.
RATIONALE
A survey among citizens and through local officials conducted in March-April 2022 determined that the major issue of Hulo is peace and order.
The approach used in the survey is qualitative; data are gathered through an interview via online means.
Among the causes of peace and order issues in Hulo were loitering caused by unemployment, and drinking in the middle of the streets.
Due to this, it has decreased the quality of environment and life in Hulo at some point.
This proposal sought to describe how peacekeeping is maintained in Hulo.
DESCRIPTION
The report aims to give the audience a portal to another dimension of Hulo. Also, to allow the audience to see that Mandaluyong City is not just about the shopping malls that surround it. It is desired that the bottom line of the study would contribute to the betterment of the peace and order committee of Hulo.
In order to gather data, the reporter will conduct an interview via zoom or google form, depending on the availability and convenience of Hulo’s Barangay Captain or Peace and Order Committee Head. The interview will be recorded or screen captured to provide proof of the interview. Data and documents will be gathered by sending a request to the Barangay Secretary. Questions to be asked are mostly about the responsibilities of the committee, number of personnel, their materials and equipment, and the common problems that occur. In addition, the reporter will also interview the citizens who answered the survey among citizens that was conducted in March 2022 regarding their satisfaction on different factors and aspects regarding the committee.
Moreover, to support the report, the reporter will request for documents such as photos or lists of equipment for peace and order operations, Barangay profile, Barangay map, and a Barangay organizational chart (if applicable.) After the interviews, data and documents gathering, and writing a draft, the reporter will write her citizen journalism report based on the materials they will acquire about the maintenance of peace and order in the community.
