Topic: Noise Pollution

Summary of your topic: The noisy neighborhood is becoming very inconvenient for everyone since most of us in our neighborhood study and work at home due to COVID-19 restrictions. This issue can be disruptive to our work, sleep, and health. Moreover, even though everyone has the right to live in a quiet environment, it sill does not change the fact that noise is part of our lives.

Rationale:

  • Most of us have studied and worked at home ever since COVID-19. It can affect our performances in school and work.

  • Having a loud environment can affect one's health; poor hearing and heart attack.

  • Noise can affect someone’s mood. It will not keep a person at ease and calm most of the time. Instead, they may feel more frustrated and irritated.

  • Having a noisy neighborhood can affect an individual's sleeping schedules and rest days.

Explanation:

Noise pollution is a typical annoyance for everyone who does not live in a secluded or private area. In barangay Poblacion, Pulilan, Bulacan, noise pollution is one of our biggest concerns since we have been dealing with this issue for several years. These noises are causing a great disturbance to one’s work, sleep, and health. However, there are noises like closing doors, talking, noisy construction, and dogs barking, which are unavoidable in life. But, noises like playing loud music, celebrating parties for too long, singing karaoke all night which is somehow one of the Filipino traditions, and noisy vehicles roaming every day in the street must be dealt with immediately. I believe there is nothing wrong with celebrations and karaoke, but discipline and limitations is a must. Personally, as a student who has been on my online distance learning for two straight years, noise pollution always gets in my way. Also, I believe that setting limitations and implementing strong rules regarding this issue will benefit the community.

As I am one of the citizen journalists, I would like to address this issue by first spreading awareness through posting on my social media accounts. Everyone can access it when uploaded publicly. Also, social media is one of the best platforms to distribute news and inform people about our concerns.

Second, I would ask my friends who are willing to join and help me distribute my proposal to their social media accounts until it reaches the barangay and to everyone who has been dealing with noise pollution.

Lastly, is beating the incompetency of the government officials by simply putting my words and thoughts into action. My Plan A is to contact or reach them by visiting our barangay's official website and Facebook page. If Plan A does not work, my Plan B is to write a permission letter and bring it to the barangay hall. To allow me to set a date for an interview with at least one of our barangay officials to propose this issue and convince them to consider this proposal worthy of their time discussing.

Overall, with everyone's active participation and efforts inserted, I will expect the government's full support and loyalty for us to rest assured that this report, which involves many lives, shall not be wasted. Let's be loud and clear with our voices rather than be a bothersome noisy neighborhood.
